Vietnamese Student Soccer Team’s First Game

Soccer is the national sport of Vietnam. We play soccer, eat soccer, sleep soccer and can’t live without soccer. People of all ages, professions, and interests enjoy soccer. Children play soccer on the street, high school students play soccer during short breaks between classes, colleagues play soccer together to socialize and have fun after stressful working hours. Only when you have the chance to be in Hanoi when the National Soccer Team is hosting a home game at My Dinh National Stadium, get overwhelmed by the sea of scarlet shirts, flags, and the exuberant noise from hundreds of thousands of supporters, and go through a sleepless night with the entire Hanoi city to congratulate a glorious victory, you can see how much Vietnamese people love soccer.

Without an exception, the Vietnamese students in Troy University main campus have made soccer a substantial part of our lives. We gather play soccer at least once a week, either practicing or playing some friendly matches. So far, we have been crushing (or getting crushed by) several victims at these games, including Troy University Soccer Club, Korean Student Team, and some random Fraternities… Today, our soccer group has grown and matured enough to become the Vietnamese Student Soccer Team (VSST) under the leadership of our Captain Anh Thuy Khuong (also known as KBL). At the moment, we are competing in the Troy University’s Annual Intramural League sponsored by Troy University Intramural Sports Department, which was kicked off on October 27th. On the opening day, VSST had their first victory over Prestige Worldwide by a very very close game. The two teams tied up 2-2 after the official game time, and went on for the penalty-shootouts which resulted in 3-2 for VSST.

For those who couldn’t make it to the game, MC Jewel Pham has got it covered. Here’s VSA TV’s coverage of VSST’s glorious victory, including a lot of interesting details, insights, and interviews with Coach Mourinho Thuan, Captain KBL, and Goalkeeper Majin Buu.
